Registration Opens for Annual Conference in Nation’s Capital

May 20, 2019

We are excited to announce that the NASDPTS Annual Conference will be in the Crystal City area of Washington, DC, from Sunday, October 13 through Wednesday, October 16, 2019.  Online conference registration, hotel reservations, and the preliminary schedule of events are now live.  The Conference Preliminary Schedule can be viewed here.

Hosting the conference at the nation’s Capital allows us to offer significant updates and training from federal agencies that guide and regulate student transportation safety, environmental health, and access to educational programs.  Agencies scheduled to present include the National Transportation Safety Board, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Transportation Security Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the US Education Department.

The conference will also feature technology updates from our industry suppliers and best practices training by other presenters.   Conference workshops will include, “Entry Level Driver Training: Are You Ready for 2020?; Lap/shoulder Belts: A Dialogue with State and Federal Policymakers; Zero Loading Zone Fatalities—An Achievable Goal,” and many others.

We are also pleased to offer a special Post-conference workshop on Thursday morning, October 17, hosted by the National Transportation Safety Board.  This workshop will be available at no additional cost to full conference registrants.  It will be held at the NTSB Training Center in Ashburn, VA (near Dulles Airport).  The morning will feature a TWA Flight 800 tutorial, examination of the reconstruction of the aircraft wreckage, and a discussion on how the NTSB undertakes major crash investigations, including training on professional and compassionate communications with crash victims’ families.

The group hotel is the DoubleTree, Crystal City (Arlington, VA)  To reserve your room at the special conference rate of $199.00 per night (plus tax), please go the hotel registration link here.  Overnight self-parking is $19 at the conference rate.  There is a free hotel shuttle to and from Reagan National Airport, the Crystal City Metro station, and nearby restaurants.

If you have questions or need assistance regarding the conference, please contact Elisa Hanley, NASDPTS Treasurer, at AdminServices@nasdpts.org or Charlie Hood, Executive Director, at ExecDir@nasdpts.org.

Thank you for your dedication to student safety.  We look forward to seeing you in October!

Patrick McManamon, NASDPTS President Elect and 2019 Annual Conference Program Chair

NOTE: If you are not a current, 2019 calendar year member of NASDPTS, the conference registration link will prompt you to join NASDPTS as a prerequisite to registering.  Each State and National Associations Council membership is an “association” membership.  SNAC member associations may have one or more representatives sign up as members of NASDPTS under the basic association membership, and any interested persons within the member association may register for the conference.  Likewise, Suppliers Council membership is a “per company” membership, and each member company may have one or more representatives sign up under the company membership and register for the conference.  The Associate member category is per individual.  State Director membership is also per individual.
